How much does a website cost?Because we don't use templates or software to automatically generate websites this isn't an easily answered question. We have built a number of sites in the $500.00 - $1,200.00 range, we have also built sites that have cost tens of thousands of dollars and everywhere in between. The real question should be how much will my website cost? We have two ways to determine this: one is to work through with you exactly what you need and then provide you with a fixed price quote, the other is that you set a budget and we will work within that budget. We can usually provide you with a pretty accurate ballpark price on the spot. » Top How much do you charge per page?We don't charge per page as we find this to be a very misleading practice. Some web pages can take several days to program, others can be done in minutes. Many web pages are dynamically generated, that is the pages don't actually exist - they are created on the fly when someone clicks on a link to the page. We calculate our prices based on the amount of time it will take to create the site. » Top Are there any hidden costs I should be aware of?No. The price we quote you is fixed. The only exception to this will be if you want new features added that we didn't include in our original plan. » Top How long will it take to get my site online? There is no fixed rule for this as it depends on a number of factors. Generally speaking, for most small to medium sites a few weeks is all that is required. » Top I want to know if this domain name is available. How do I find out?The simplest thing to do is email us a list of names you are interested in acquiring and we will check them for you. There are certain restrictions and regulations covering domain name registration that may need to be considered. » Top What is web hosting and do I need it?In general terms web hosting is renting space on a web server to make your site available on the Internet. Every website must be hosted somewhere. Usually there will be an annual fee for hosting. At RAW Internet Design we can provide web hosting on our own servers located at the Optus Data Centre in Melbourne. As we have our own servers we are able to tailor your web hosting to suit your site's needs. If you have an existing hosting arrangement we can normally work with that as well. Your web hosting package should include sufficient space and bandwidth, an email server and site visitor statistics as a minimum. As a rough guide, hosting for most of our sites averages around $20.00 per month. » Top Can I be on the first page of Google? The short answer is yes! The long answer is that it can be complicated and can be achieved in a number of ways. This is a subject that we should discuss with you in detail as part of your overall strategy. » Top Can I update my own site?Yes. We can provide you with a Content Management System to make it easy for you to update the content of your site. We will also provide you with hands on training in using the system. It's quite simple to do and requires minimal computer skills. » Top What skills do I need to be able to update my own site?If you can send an email with an attachment you already have the skills you need, it's that easy. The only software you need to update your site is a web browser (like Internet Explorer or Firefox among others). If you want to upload photographs you will need some program that resizes (and preferably optimises) images. We usually recommend Adobe Photoshop Elements, it's quite easy to use and not too expensive. » Top I'm too busy to update my site, can you do it for me?Yes. We can arrange to update your site on a scheduled or ad hoc basis to suit your needs. » Top What's the difference between SEO and SEM?S.E.O. stands for Search Engine Optimisation - it is about designing your site in such a way as to maximise your ranking in search results on sites such as Google or Yahoo. S.E.M. stands for Search Engine Marketing - essentially paying for advertising on a search engine, usually this is on a "pay per click" basis, i.e. you only pay when someone visits your site. Both SEO and SEM should be considered as a part of your overall strategy. » Top I've got a website but it isn't doing anything for me, what's wrong?Obviously your site is not meeting your expectations. There may be any number of reasons why this is the case. Please email us the address of your website and your contact details. We will be more than happy to look closely at your site and then contact you to discuss. » Top How can I get more visitors to my site?Getting more people to visit your website may not necessarily be the answer. Before we worry about that we need to clearly define your target market and make sure your site appeals to that market. Then, we need to put in place a strategy to get the right people (potential customers) visiting your site. There are many ways to achieve this, some will cost little or nothing, some may require an investment. One obvious way is to make sure that any other advertising you do contains your web address. » Top How will I know how many people have been to my site?If your site is hosted by RAW Internet Design you will have access to a comprehensive site visitor analysis tool. We will provide you with training as to how to access these statistics, and more importantly, how to make sense of them. Your statistics package can provide you with a huge amount of data including: The total number of visitors (by hour/day/month/year), the number of first time visitors, most popular pages, least popular pages, how people found you (search engine, typed address, link from another site etc), even which keywords people used in searches and much more. Making sense of all this information is quite easy once you know what you are looking for and can be accessed with one click of your mouse. » Top Can I find out who has visited my site?Do you mean their names and addresses? No. We can help you put in place strategies to encourage visitors to your site to voluntarily provide you their contact details. You must be aware that there are strict regulations in place to protect people's privacy and the ways that you can contact them. We can help you make sure that you are fully compliant with these regulations and get the best from your site. » Top
